| There
is no doubt that people have used massages as a remedy from the
very beginning. Massages may have got their roots in the way the
mother touches and strokes her children. It was only at the close of the 19th century that Peter Henrig Ling from Sweden introduced massages into the spa treatment. They spread quickly to all European spas and became an important part of the physiotherapeutic procedure. Massage can improve the mental state of the patient - as a result of this he recovers more quickly. According to its method of application it can either calm the patient down or stimulate him. It also helps to relax stiff joints and to ease the pain in stretched and strained muscles, to relieve nervous tension and headaches and it often removes sleep disorders. Massages can relieve the pain in joints and the spine and it stimulates blood circulation. Patients suffering from high blood pressure can be treated by means of massages as well. Classical massage - complete and partial - is also called Swedish massage, positively influences processes in the human body (e.g. the metabolissm, circulation, blood pressure, etc.) Underwater massage - underwater massages rank among popular spa procedures not only because of their effectiveness, but also because they are usually well-tolerated and patients consider them pleasant. This procedure is not new at all. In some baths, pipes of different diameters were placed on warm mineral springs coming out from the ground under pressure as early as the Middle Ages. Water jetted from them on bathing patients . With today´s underwater massages it is possible to change the shape of the water jet, its strength and, naturally, the temperature of the bath and water which is used. The patient lies comfortably in a big bath filled with mineral water, whose temperarure ranges ranges from 35 to 37°C, and is massaged by a stream of water, the temperature of which ranges from 40 to 45°C. Underwater massages improve the circulation of the blood and lymph which results in the improvement of the metabolism and which also strengthens immunity. |
