KV Konto would like to invite you to spend a week with us this (or next ???) Summer in the elegant spa town of Karlovy Vary as it celebrates its 34 th International Film Festival. Now an annual event, this category " A " festival (up there with Cannes, Venice and Montréal) has, in recent years, welcomed visitors such as Michael Douglas, Tim Roth, Lou Reed, Alan Alda, Jason Robards, Milos Forman, Gregory Peck, Julie Ormonde, Leonardo Di Caprio, Whoopie Goldberg and Lauren Bacall, along with many lesser - known actors, producers and directors and of course, film goers, taking the opportunity to watch movies they would normally never have the chance to see, including many international, and even world, premiers. There is also the chance to discuss films with the people who make them, and, if you are thinking of making a film yourself. The contacts to make will be here.

      Last year, over 200 films from 47 countries were shown here, from Argentina to Yugoslavia, from Belgium to Turkmenistan, and this year promises to be even better. All films are either shown in English, or have English subtitles (useful if your Turkmenistani is a tad rusty). From 9.00 am to 2.00 am next day, there is always something on, somewhere.

      Of course, you don´t have to watch films all the time (although many people choose to do just that). During the festival, the town comes alive, with concerts, plays, street entertainers, horse racing, promotions, and the vibe that comes from being in a place where it´s all happening.

      All the world comes to Karlovy Vary for the first week in July. We want you to come too. Taste the world famous Czech beer, or sample the local cooking in one of our many inexpensive restaurants. Enjoy the atmosphere and scenery of a town Goethe once called paradise on earth. And experience the welcome and hospitality of the Czech people.
